CCAI 9012
Lecture: Wednesdays, 17:00–18:50, LE4

GenAI Solutions to Global Challenges explores how artificial intelligence, and generative AI in particular, can be used carefully and creatively in architecture and urban design. The course introduces core ideas behind data, machine learning, and generative models, and focuses on how these systems behave in practice rather than in abstraction.
Teaching is organised around lectures, tutorials, and case studies, alongside a team-based course project. Students work with datasets, examine model behaviour, and test AI tools through hands-on exercises, while engaging directly with questions of bias, transparency, accountability, and social impact. Ethical and responsible use is treated as a practical design concern, not a theoretical add-on.
This document links the various course components, including weekly lecture materials, tutorial resources, readings, case study briefs, and project starter kits. Content will continue to evolve over the semester as tools, examples, and risks around AI change.

Based on our class discussion on 2026.09.30, we will make the following adjustments:
• A.0: Applied Exercise — Deadline
Moved from 2026.10.14 to 2026.10.28.
• A.0: Applied Exercise — Additional Support
Online tutorials will be arranged on 2026.10.05 and 2026.10.06 to support your development. Please sign up [here].
• A.0 vs A.1 — Assessment Arrangement
Both assignments will be retained, with A.1 substantially simplified. The formal weighting of A.0 and A.1 will remain unchanged.
• A.1: Case Study — Deadline
Moved from 2026.11.04 to 2026.11.11.
• A.1: Case Study — Simplified Requirement
The requirement will be simplified to a single-sheet submission. Updated guidelines will follow.
Two tutorial sessions are affected by public holidays. Make-up sessions have been arranged as follows:
• GenAI Tutorial
Original session: 2026.10.01
Make-up sessions: 2026.10.05 and 2026.10.06
• Crit-Style Peer Review
Original session: 2026.10.19
Make-up sessions: 2026.10.20 and 2026.10.21
📅 Please sign up for a make-up session [here].
Students who had already signed up for the affected tutorial dates are not required to attend a make-up session solely for attendance purposes; their attendance will be counted as fulfilled. However, please ensure that you attend at least one of the two Crit-Style Peer Review sessions.
